What is it about Halloween that captivates us? Is it the thrill of flirting with the macabre?
Does it have something to do with the fascination of the grave inherent within us all? Most of us harbor warm feelings
for the holiday, leftovers from childhood when Halloween meant pretending we were someone -- or something -- we were
not. It was all about dressing up and begging for candy, about pranks and ghosts and endless possibilities. For one night,
we allowed ourselves to believe in everything adults told us was untrue.
The whole Halloween season holds a special kind of magic. The air is a crisp reprieve from the
hot summer months, and the trees change into a kaleidoscope of color. The world is a dark fairyland, and anything you
dream can be true. Halloween is candy apples, scary jack-'o-lanterns and the promise of something terrifyingly wonderful
in the air. It's excitement, the sort that we find on Christmas morning as children and somehow lose as we grow
into adults. For many of us, that excitement for Halloween never quite goes away. That's why I decided to dedicate this page
to my favorite holiday of all.
Halloween
A gentle breeze rustling the dry cornstalks.
A sound is heard, a goblin walks.
A harvest moon suffers a black cat's cry.
Oh' do the witches fly!
Bonfire catches a pumpkin's gleam.
Rejoice, it's Halloween!
